Art & Science

Art and science have remained interconnected throughout history; art has inspired scientific inquiry, while science has opened new paths for creation. Humanity has relied on both as essential tools for expression and development.
A key example of this relationship appears in the Renaissance, where Leonardo da Vinci documented engineering concepts through illustrations valued today for both their technological insight and artistic merit. This synergy laid the foundation for what we now understand as design. During this period, art and science were fully intertwined within a broader philosophical framework: humanism. Their connection has continued to evolve across different eras throug history.

The role of art goes beyond aesthetic enjoyment; it is a complex activity deeply tied to human nature. Art and science intersect and collaborate, sharing techniques, technology, knowledge, mediums, ethics and personal values. They converge in divers disciplines such as architecture, cinema, painting, and design, (among others), often becoming inseparable. Contemporary art continues to integrate scientific advancements—technical and or philosophical—and today scientific development is difficult to imagine without contributions from art professionals.

The history of this relationship is also the history of perception. Our current understanding of reality has been shaped by advances in both fields: Renaissance perspective, isometry and Cubism, optics and Impressionism, and now the growing relationship between art and science through artificial intelligence. Representation shapes our view of the world, and that view in turn influences how we represent it again.
Recognizing this process strengthens our ability to guide research and development toward positive impact.

Activae embraces the importance of understanding and fostering this relationship. We are a multidisciplinary team using art and science to analyse, evaluate, and implement solutions to the challenges of our time, oriented toward our common home, our society, and our environment.

We warmly invite artists, scientists, and researchers to collaborate with us—whether through new projects, ideas, or shared explorations. Activae is a space for dialogue, experimentation, and collective creation.
